Ok sometimes things show up at your door and you wonder how come no one has actually used that...
Anyhow, a friend has GIVEN me some bison yarn! She doesn't have time to knit it, and was taking some space in her house.
Just got it today. And a BIG bag of it. Probably about 3 pounds.
The first issue is that it is fiber that has been passed around (which also makes it very cool). It is definitely not the down part, because it is quite coarse. Soft and coarse at the same time. But not scratchy. So the top coat? But not being the original buyer of the yarn I cannot know for sure. It might also have been blended with sheep wool given its shade.
The next issue seems to be to roll it into a ball. They are pretty stubborn hanks and the ends seem to be invisible. Maybe that is why I ended up with it?
The last question is: What the heck should I make with that?
I am thinking a shawl. Nice warm cozy TV shawl.
Gotta figure out if it felts. If it does, it would also make nice slippers, I could get them lined with a leather sole...

Oooo!! I have no idea what you should make, but that is just COOL that you've got bison yarn! My husband has joked that we should save the clippings when we cut his hair and then spin it up and make him a hat of his own hair... I don't know that his hair will work, but I'm seriously considering collecting from our soft and long-haired dog!!`
Oh you remind me of the story in a little knitting book where the lady had a sweater made of her dog's hair. It was really nice and soft, until she wore it in the rain! You know that slight wet sheep smell you get when you wash woolies? well according to this story the wet dog smell is not as subtle...
